Dome Shadows
Hi, my name is Gary Yantis and I worked as a night club photographer for Marshall Stewart's Dome Shadows in 1969. I am creating this site to bring back memories of one on Houston's most popular night clubs in the 1960's and 1970's. I am requesting your input to help build this site. If you ever worked at this club as a musician, waitress or staff person I would like to talk to you. You can reach me at garyyantis@gmail.com. I have been in touch with Johnny Williams who was part of the band beginning in 1963.  Marsha Stewart just passed on information to Donna Bradshaw that the Dome Shadows opened December 18, 1963.  Also, if you were a patron of this club please get in touch with me at the above email. I also a have a forum site attached. Please use it to make your comments. Enjoy your tour of this site and come back often. Let's make this a fun site.

We have a new forum that is more interactive and user friendly. It is free, you just need to register, and your ready to go. With the new forum you can use avatars, smilies and upload photographs and movies using Flickr or Photobucket. You can also upload photographs and movies from websites. The address is:

Here is an interior photograph of the Dome Shadows, click on image to see larger view:

Great news!!!! Kathy Hobbs Champion has contributed 18 new photographs of band members, staff and customers. Check out her photographs in the Photo page link.

I have just created a new Justin.tv link called Dome Shadows. The site plays music from the 1960's. Click on the arrow below and watch and listen to video's from youtube. If you have youtube videos you want added contact me at jackharris@att.net If you click on the link it will take you to the site where there is a chatroom which anyone can use. Enjoy the new feature.

I just received an email from Delores Price-Huffman. She was the manager for thirteen years. Here I'll let her tell it:

Hi,

My name is Deloris Price-Huffman. I was Marshall Stewart’s Manager of the Dome Shadows. From the day it opened (and before) for approximately 13 years. I would love to talk with you and give you some incite as to the club. I may even reach some old friends. I am so excited to see this web site being built. Dome Shadows and been such a big part of my life. It’s interesting that I still meet people that tell me it was a big part of their lives too.

Thanks,

Deloris Huffman

Hi, this is Gary Yantis and I have been in contact with Delores Huffman. She has agreed to loan me some pictures and memorabilia from the Dome Shadows. She has a lot of stuff from the Dome. It will take a while, but I am going to create a separate page for her photos. It may be about a month before it starts coming on line, but be looking for it.

Now if I could just get some info on Van's Ballroom, I will add that as well, maybe a separate web site.

A young lady named Vickie emailed me that she had worked at the Dome Shadows for 5 years. The address was 9218 Buffalo Speedway.
It appears it was replaced by a condo development.

Mapquest location.

An aerial view.

My first guess was this location because I would take another street from S. Main and saving time rather than driving down to the Buffalo Speedway intersection.

I'm hoping Vickie can supply us with a lot more info on the Dome Shadows.

I got a phone call earlier this evening from J. R. who use to work in the poolhall at corner of the center that the Dome Shadows occupied. He said they use to take video in Beta Max, high definition. The Houston Oilers had their private parties at the Dome Shadow on Monday nights when the club was closed. The parties were video taped. He is going to try and get his hands on the tapes adn transfer them to dvd. If he can get permission from the Titans to do so. Who knows we might see Earl Campbell.
J. R. got my name off the new blog I established on chron.com. for a shortcut to the blog go to the link/announcement page.

J.R. is a radio station manager in Cleveland, Texas, north of Houston that plays Country Western music to the Houston audience.

We'll have more from JR in the near future.

The picture to the left was the Dome Shadows as if appeared in the 1990's under a different name. Marshall Stewart owned the shopping center that the Dome Shadows was located in and had the entire parking lot for the night club at night. During the day the other shop owners had the parking lot. On most popular night like Fridays and Saturdays the entire parking lot was full.
